Road closures, parking restrictions and changes to public transportation routes and public works services will be necessary during the 2015 Papal Visit in the areas of the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See (Vatican Embassy), the White House, Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, Conference of Catholic Bishops, Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, St. John Paul II Seminary, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the U.S. Capitol, and various PEPCO locations.
Parking restricted areas will be posted with “Emergency No Parking” signage. Fencing, other physical barriers and uniformed law enforcement officers will also be utilized to enforce vehicle and pedestrian restricted zones.
The District will deploy additional intersection Traffic Control Officers, modify traffic signal timings and establish Emergency No Parking areas along detour routes.
Visitors are advised that roads are closed to cars, pedestrians and bicyclists. Note: this means bicyclists won’t be able to walk their bikes through the restricted areas.
Following is a rundown of parking restrictions and road closures:
The following parking restriction will be implemented beginning 10 am Monday, September 21. The restriction will remain in effect until approximately 4 pm Thursday, September 24:
The following parking restriction will be implemented beginning 12 am Tuesday, September 22. The restriction will remain in effect until approximately 4 pm Thursday, September 24:
The following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning 9 am Tuesday, September 22 through approximately 4 pm on Thursday, September 24:
***MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE NW between Observatory Circle South and 34th Place NW will be closed to all northbound traffic. Southbound traffic will be permitted between 34th Street NW and Waterside Drive NW. All northbound truck traffic will be diverted onto Q Street NW at Sheridan Circle NW. All other northbound traffic will be diverted onto Rock Creek Parkway at Waterside Drive NW. All southbound truck traffic will be diverted east on Garfield Street NW or continue south on Wisconsin Avenue. Massachusetts Avenue NW will be closed to all traffic intermittently***
The following parking restrictions will be implemented beginning 10 pm Tuesday, September 22. The restrictions will remain until 12 pm Wednesday, September 23:
The following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning between 9 pm and 10:30 pm Tuesday, September 22 through 12 pm on Wednesday, September 23:
*exception* Southbound traffic on 19th Street NW will be permitted to flow westbound on Constitution Avenue to 23rd Street NW

The following parking restrictions will be implemented beginning 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 22. The restrictions will remain until 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 23:
