The Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Transportation wish to inform the public of two events scheduled for this weekend – Beat the Deadline 5K on Saturday, September 6 and the Nation’s Triathlon on Sunday, September 7, 2014.
Beat The Deadline 5K
On Saturday, September 6, 2014, the Beat the Deadline 5K will take place in the District of Columbia. In conjunction with this event, there will be several street closures that motorists should take into consideration:
RACE ROUTE

The race start time will be from 7:30 am to 9:30 am, at which time the roadways mentioned above will be closed to traffic.

Nation's Triathlon 2014 and Beat the Deadline 5K
The Nation’s Triathlon is scheduled for Sunday, September 7, 2014. For more information, please visit:http://nationstri.com/
The following streets will be closed from 5:30 am to 1:00 pm:
• 14th Street bridge HOV outbound lanes will be closed to traffic.
Bike Route:
Start: Independence Avenue at West Basin Drive SW
Finish: (begin 2nd loop) at Independence Ave (east of Ericsson Circle)
Run Route:
START: Independence Avenue, SW and West Basin Drive, SW (curb lane)
FINISH: Ohio Drive and West Basin Drive, SW
*Below is a list of closed streets as well as alternative routes that can be used during the event:
(Alternate routes will be 14th Street Bridge, 9th Street Tunnel and 12th Street Tunnel)
(Alternate routes will be 23rd Street, NW, Constitution Avenue, NW and Virginia Avenue, NW)
*East and westbound M Street, NW and south Wisconsin Avenue, NW, will remain open to traffic during the event. Whitehurst Freeway will not open inbound or outbound from 5:30 to approximately 1:00 pm. *
Motorists traveling in the area of these events may experience delays and should consider alternative routes if possible. The Metropolitan Police Department and the District Department of Transportation would like to remind motorists to pay full attention whenever operating any motor vehicle and to be mindful of heavy pedestrian traffic that may be associated with special events. These street closings are subject to change without notice based upon unanticipated events and prevailing conditions.
