(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Bowser released the following statement regarding the Council’s passage of the Homeless Services Reform Amendment Act of 2017:
“Today, the District took another bold step forward to making homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring. As we continue to produce and preserve affordable housing across all eight wards, this legislation will ensure that our most vulnerable residents are always first in line for the resources and support they need to get back on their feet. We know that in a city as prosperous as ours, no resident should struggle to access safe shelter, and with the help of providers, advocates, and residents, we are finding new ways to prevent homelessness and get more residents into permanent housing. We believe that we can end homelessness in DC, we have made progress in doing so, and going forward, we will continue working with the Council to meet the needs of our residents. I thank Councilmember Nadeau for her leadership on this issue.”
