Modified Holiday Schedule for Select District Services

(Washington, DC) – The District of Columbia government offices will be closed on Christmas Day (Monday, December 25, 2017) and New Year’s Day (Monday, January 1, 2018). Below is information regarding critical, on-going District operations for these days:  

The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will suspend sanitation services on both days, resuming Tuesday, December 26 and Tuesday, January 2.

• Trash and recycling collections in once-a-week collection neighborhoods will “slide” to the next day for the remainder of the week.
• In twice-a-week collection neighborhoods, Monday’s and Thursday’s collections will slide to Tuesday and Friday. Tuesday’s and Friday’s collections will slide to Wednesday and Saturday.
• The Fort Totten and Benning Road transfer stations will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, reopening the following day.
• There will be no parking enforcement on Christmas Day (December 25). There will be Streetcar parking enforcement on New Year’s Eve (December 31) between the hours of 8 am and 2 am, and on New Year’s Day (January 1) between the hours of 9 am and 10 pm Other than these special holiday hours, normal enforcement citywide will be in place.

Earlier this week, DPW released an updated leaf collection schedule, and the agency will continue to provide a new ward-by-ward update next Wednesday and each Wednesday for the remainder of leaf collection season (until January 12). Residents can stay up-to-date on the leaf collection schedule and view neighborhood maps at twitter.com/DCDPW.

All DC Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) locations will be closed:

• Saturday, December 23
• Monday, December 25 
• Saturday, December 30 
• Monday, December 1

Customers visiting a DMV Service Center on other days are encouraged to plan ahead and “Know Before You Go” for services requiring an in-person visit, as customer volume is high before and after a holiday closing. To check customer volume at a specific center, residents can check the service center’s webcams which are refreshed every 60 seconds during normal business hours at dmv.dc.gov. Additionally, DC DMV has more than 55 online services at dmv.dc.gov that enable customers to skip the in-person trip.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will suspend work in the District from Friday, December 22, 2017 at 12 pm through Monday, December 25, 2017 and from Friday, December 29, 2017 at 12 pm through Monday, January 1, 2018. Lane closures will not be allowed for non-emergency work in the roadways and sidewalks within the District’s Right-of-Way. This includes manhole access and construction related deliveries. Approved activities will resume beginning Tuesday, December 26, 2017, during permitted work hours. There will be no meter enforcement New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day.

• DC Circulator 
  • There will be no DC Circulator service on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 2017.
  • For New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31, 2017, the Circulator will offer special weekend service on three routes to better serve revelers and workers.
  • The Dupont Circle – Georgetown – Rosslyn and the Georgetown – McPherson Square portion of the Georgetown – Union Station routes will run extended service until 2 am.
  • The Adams Morgan route (Woodley Park – Adams Morgan – McPherson Square) will run extended service until 2 am.
• DC Streetcar
  • There will be no DC Streetcar service on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 2017.
  • For New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31, 2017, the DC Streetcar will offer extended hours from 8 am to 2 am.
  • On New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2018, the DC Streetcar will run on a shortened service from 8 am to 10 pm.
• DDOT will not apply reversible lane operations on Monday, December 25 with normal operations resuming Tuesday, December 26.
• Parking enforcement will also be suspended Monday, December 25, with normal operations resuming Tuesday, December 26. 
• Streetcar parking enforcement is daily, including weekends and holidays along H Street and Benning Road NE, between 3rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue, NE. On Sundays and holidays, streetcar parking enforcement is between 8 am and 11 pm (Enforcement occurs Monday through Thursday from 6 am to midnight, and on Fridays and 6 am and 2 am Friday and Saturday.)
• Normal enforcement citywide of other parking violations resumes December 26.

All DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) facilities will be closed on Sunday, December 24, Monday, December 25, Sunday, December 31, and Monday, January 1.

• The permits office will be closed on these dates. 
• All grass fields are closed for the season. 
• Parks, playgrounds and synthetic fields will be open for general use, however, gated locations will remain locked.  
• Previously permitted events on unlocked synthetic fields can take place as scheduled.  

All DC Public Library locations will be closed on:

• Sunday, December 24, 2017
• Monday, December 25, 2017 
• Monday, January 1, 2018

• Low-Barrier shelters for individuals operate year-round and will be open all day on Monday, December 25, 2017 and Monday, January 1, 2018.
