(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Thursday, January 24, at 11:30 am, Mayor Bowser will celebrate the opening of Anacostia Organics, the first medical marijuana dispensary east of the Anacostia River. Founded by Linda Greene, Anacostia Organics is woman-owned and the first cannabis business to become a Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) Certified Business Enterprise (CBE) in the District of Columbia.
The Bowser Administration has long been committed to supporting a high-quality medical marijuana program that meets the needs of patients and providers. In 2016, the Administration created a new division within the Department of Health devoted to advancing science, technology and innovation in the fast-paced field of medical marijuana. This division provides services and oversight to patients, health professionals, providers, cultivation centers and dispensaries.
